New Features inside the 2020 Mazda CX-5 Compared to the 2019 Model
With a bold design and a sleek interior, Mazda has created an impressive model in the CX-5. Known for its versatility and drivability, nearly any model year is a great choice. But how does the company’s latest model – the 2020 Mazda CX-5 – compare to last year’s model? Find out what is new inside the 2020 Mazda CX-5 below.
Turbo Engine and Performance Upgrades for the 2020 Mazda CX-5
Despite the 2020 Mazda CX-5 using the same engines from the 2019 model, some minor changes to performance have changed. Although the 2020 Mazda CX-5 utilizes the same SKYACTIV®-G 2.5L Turbo Engine, engineers have managed to improve its performance slightly with premium unleaded fuel. This equates to a total 250 horsepower (up from 227) and 320 ft-lbs. of torque (up from 310 ft-lbs.). The updated model also received two new standard performance features: adaptive cruise control and Off-Road Traction Assist.
New Set of Standard Safety Features
On top of the slight performance additions, the 2020 Mazda CX-5 also receives a new set of standard safety features. Included in the model is the i-ACTIVSENSE® suite, which is now standard in the model. This offered technology such as:
- Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop and Go Function
- Advanced Smart City Brake Support w/ Pedestrian Detection
- Lane Departure Warning System
- Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert
Even though the safety features listed above come standard in the 2020 model, the 2019 CX-5 can also be equipped with them through an available safety package. The one thing that cannot be had in the 2019 model is the Adaptive Front Lighting system. This system allows the LED headlights to shift and react to turns in the road, allowing drivers to receive an extra second of reaction time. With it equipped, the 2020 Mazda CX-5 received an IIHS Top Safety Pick+.
